Minimise food waste

Definitely not a waste of time.

We want you to enjoy the tastiest sushi. That’s why we make it fresh on the day. We also want to minimise food waste, below are some of the ways we are ensuring we reduce food waste to the minimum.

Yum, yum. Win, win.

The ends of sushi rolls are cut off to look neat. These bits are just as delicious, which is why we introduced our 'Forgotten Ends' snack pot in 2020. Since then, they’ve saved 464 tonnes of food. Plus, for each pot sold, €0.20 is donated to Action Against Hunger.

Bundles of joy. That could save you a bundle.

To reduce leftover sushi at the end of the day, we fill surprise baskets and sell them at a discounted rate on the ‘Too Good To Go’ app. These are available in seven countries. Since our partnership started in 2019, we’ve saved over 238,740 meals. That’s equal to 596 tonnes of CO2.

Since 2020, we have also donated 52 tonnes of food (worth €348,000) to local charities across Europe.

At the end of the day – you save money, we cut food waste.

We’ve introduced ‘end of day discounts’ in several countries. This gives you the chance to enjoy delicious sushi at a reduced price, while helping us cut food waste.

Waste never looked so good.

So you get the freshest sushi, we work with whole salmon. In 2022, rather than throwing the skins away, we collected them from our Paris kiosks.

They were transformed into 1,000 limited-edition marine leather chopstick sleeves. This brings us another step closer to our food waste reduction objective, while preserving biodiversity by avoiding animal breeding for leather.

You can find them on the Kelly Loves website. Chop, chop before they sell out.
