Sushi Daily Secrets

Cutting off the ends of sushi to make them look their neatest is common in Japanese cooking. But what happens to all the delicious cut off parts? At Sushi Daily, we believe that what is tasty shouldn’t go to wastey, which is why we’ve transformed all these off-cuts into the delicious Forgotten Ends pot for the tasty price of £2.05.

That’s not even the half of it. In the spirit of saving precious food, we’ve partnered with Action Against Hunger to help tackle one of the world’s greatest challenges – child hunger. That’s why 20p from every pot of Forgotten Ends will go to Action Against Hunger to support their nutrition project in Gujarat, India.

Since the launch, sushi-savants like you have helped to raise:

  • Over £175,000 raised
  • Over 165 tonnes of food waste saved
  • Over 480 tonnes of C02 saved.

It’s amazing how far the little odds and ends can go.

SMALL BITES MAKE A BIG IMPACT.

Last September, a team from Sushi Daily HQ, visited the Gujarat state of India to see how its fundraising initiative is changing lives through Action Against Hunger’s Project Vruddhi programme.

During the trip we met members of the charity team as well as mothers and children benefiting from the project. Among them was Krishna, 28, who was deeply concerned that her baby had lost weight when the local Action Against Hunger team spotted that her child was severely malnourished.

Levels of education about nutrition in remote parts of Gujarat are low, where many people live below the poverty line. Gujarat has high rates of undernutrition, with 38.5 % of children under six estimated to be stunted.

Once Action Against Hunger’s local project coordinator met Krishna, they were able to provide treatment to nourish the baby back to health and give advice on feeding.

This was just one of the many stories of transformation that the team saw during their visit. The impact of the project - which is on target to reach more than 540,000 children under six and 400,000 women like Krishna – is made possible thanks to the 20p donation from every Forgotten Ends pot sold.

Vinay Iyer, Chief Executive of Action Against Hunger in India added: ”Sushi Daily’s commitment to tackling hunger through the Project Vruddhi is invaluable to so many lives”.

At Sushi Daily, we have a long-held commitment to combating food waste, hunger and climate change, which is why we partnered with -Action Against Hunger in 2020 and have also pledged to support United Nations Sustainability Goal 2: Zero Hunger.

Annabel Brimacombe, Marketing Manager, who developed Forgotten Ends, said: “I'll never forget meeting Krishna. It was humbling to meet a strong woman embodying life's most important values. I'm so glad that Sushi Daily has been able to support a project that is making a real difference to the health and welfare of families facing hunger-related challenges.”
