Hello everyone! For this second blogpost, I want to make the case for a fruit (yes, avocado is indeed a fruit!). Soft and virtuous, with its melt-in-the-mouth texture, it’s well-known for its beneficial effects on both health and beauty.
It’s a real chameleon which works well in all types of dishes. And it’s MY comfort food! A delicate raw material that’s used every day at Sushi Daily kiosks… the perfect link to extol it’s virtues!
With the arrival of spring, we’re more likely to want (or need) to eat light, vitamin-rich dishes. So it should come as no surprise that the avocado is the latest superfood. You only have to look on Pinterest: And you can find it everywhere! In Power Bowls, Sushi Cake and even avocado cheesecake… It’s really taking pride of place among the culinary trends this year.
But, a word of warning! Avocado is a delicate product that oxidises quickly and it is better to prepare it using stainless steel utensils. On the other hand, you can enjoy it year-round, from January through to November, by taking care to select a fruit that doesn’t have any marks on it. Raw, it doesn’t last more than one or two days in the fridge.
While it is certainly fattier than the majority of fruits, it is packed with good fats, vitamins, minerals and is rich in fibre. What’s more, it’s an antioxidant which protects against certain cardiovascular diseases, for example.
In terms of cosmetology, avocado oil and pulp are absolute essentials. Its vitamin E concentration slows down ageing and the appearance of wrinkles. Mums-to-be, you should know that it’s also great for preventing stretch marks. J
Next step for me: a home-made avocado face mask, I’m a real fan!
P.S. It’s simply heavenly in a Verde Maki Salmon from Sushi Daily, dipped in soy sauce with a dash of wasabi… I highly recommend it 😉
